This method statement applies to all personnel responsible for cleaning floor surfaces in various environments, including offices, commercial spaces, healthcare facilities, and residential buildings. It covers the use of a single cleaning solution in a mop bucket to clean and sanitize floors.
3
Responsibilities
Site Supervisor: Ensure that all cleaning personnel are trained and compliant with the method statement. Oversee the proper use and maintenance of mopping equipment.
Operatives: Carry out single solution mopping according to the procedures outlined, using the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and following safety guidelines.
Health & Safety Officer: Monitor adherence to the method statement, conduct safety audits, and provide additional training as needed.

Procedure
Preparation
1. Inspect Equipment:
Check the mop and bucket for cleanliness and any signs of damage. Ensure the mop head is clean or replace it if necessary.
2. Prepare the Cleaning Solution:
Measure and mix the cleaning solution according to the manufacturer’s instructions in the bucket.
Ensure the solution is properly diluted to avoid surface damage or ineffective cleaning.
Mopping Process
1. Place Warning Signs:
Position "Wet Floor" signs around the area to be mopped to alert others of potential slip hazards.
2. Start Mopping:
Dip the mop into the cleaning solution, then wring out excess liquid to avoid over-saturating the floor.
Begin mopping from the farthest corner of the room, working your way toward the exit.
Use a figure-eight motion or straight lines to mop, covering the entire surface evenly.
For heavily soiled areas, allow the solution to sit for a few minutes before scrubbing.
3. Rinse and Continue:
Regularly rinse the mop in the solution and wring it out to maintain effectiveness. Change the solution if it becomes dirty.
Post-Mopping
1. Final Rinse:
For areas requiring it, perform a final rinse with clean water to remove any residual cleaning solution.
2. Inspect the Area:
Check the floor for cleanliness and ensure it is dry before removing warning signs.
3. Clean and Store Equipment:
Clean the mop and bucket thoroughly, replace the mop head if necessary, and store equipment in a designated area.
Dispose of any waste or used mop heads appropriately.

Safety precautions
Slip Hazards: Always use "Wet Floor" signs during and after mopping. Ensure floors are dry before removing signs.
Chemical Safety: Follow the manufacturer’s instructions when mixing the cleaning solution. Wear gloves and other PPE as required to protect against chemical exposure.
Ergonomics: Use proper lifting techniques when handling buckets of water to avoid strain injuries.

Emergency procedures
Chemical Exposure: In case of accidental contact with the cleaning solution, rinse the affected area with plenty of water. Seek medical attention if irritation persists.
Spills: If a spill occurs, clean it up immediately to prevent slip hazards. Use absorbent materials if necessary.
Injury: If an injury occurs (e.g., slip, strain), provide first aid as necessary and seek medical attention. Report the incident to the site supervisor.
