Procedure
Preparation
1. Review MSDS: Read and understand the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) for the cleaning chemical to be used. Ensure the MSDS is accessible on site.
2. Check PPE: Wear appropriate PPE, including gloves, goggles, and a face mask, as indicated by the MSDS or risk assessment.
3. Prepare the Area: Ensure the area to be cleaned is well-ventilated. Place warning signs around the work area to alert others of potential hazards, such as slippery floors.
Mixing the Chemical
1. Fill the Mop Bucket:
o Use a clean, labeled mop bucket with a wringer.
o Fill the bucket with the correct amount of clean, cold water as specified by the chemical manufacturer.
2. Add the Cleaning Chemical:
o Carefully measure the recommended amount of cleaning chemical according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
o Slowly add the chemical to the water in the bucket, avoiding splashes. Never add water to the chemical to prevent any adverse reactions.
o Stir the solution gently with the mop or a mixing stick to ensure even distribution of the chemical in the water.
Application
1. Prepare the Mop:
o Submerge the mop into the bucket, allowing it to absorb the cleaning solution.
o Use the wringer to remove excess liquid, ensuring the mop is damp but not overly wet.
2. Mopping the Floor:
o Begin mopping at the farthest point from the exit and work your way towards the exit to avoid stepping on the cleaned area.
o Use an "S" or figure-eight motion to cover the floor evenly, overlapping strokes to ensure thorough cleaning.
o Frequently rinse and wring the mop in the bucket to avoid spreading dirt.
3. Allow Contact Time:
o Allow the cleaning solution to sit on the floor for the recommended contact time as per the manufacturer’s instructions to ensure effective cleaning and disinfection.
4. Rinse the Floor (if required):
o If the cleaning chemical requires rinsing, repeat the process using clean water to remove any residue.
Post-Cleaning
1. Empty the Mop Bucket:
o Dispose of any remaining cleaning solution in accordance with environmental and safety guidelines.
o Rinse the mop bucket thoroughly with clean water and store it in a designated area.
2. Clean and Store the Mop:
o Rinse the mop head with clean water and allow it to dry completely before storing it to prevent mildew.
3. Disposal of Waste:
