This statement covers the cleaning of commercial spaces, including but not limited to:

Responsibilities

• Cleaning Supervisor: Oversees the cleaning team, ensures adherence to the method statement, and manages supplies and equipment.
• Cleaning Operatives: Carry out the cleaning tasks as per the method statement, report issues to the supervisor, and follow safety protocols.

Equipment and materials

• Cleaning agents: All-purpose cleaner, glass cleaner, disinfectant, toilet cleaner, floor cleaner, etc.
• Tools: Microfiber cloths, mop and bucket, vacuum cleaner, dusters, scrubbers, brooms, dustpans, vacuum cleaners, squeegies
• Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Gloves, aprons, masks, safety goggles.
• Signage: Wet floor signs, "Cleaning in Progress" signs.

Procedure

Preparation
1. PPE: Cleaning operatives must wear appropriate PPE before starting the tasks.
2. Signage: Place "Cleaning in Progress" and wet floor signs as necessary to alert building occupants.
3. Inspection: Conduct a preliminary inspection of the area to identify any specific cleaning needs or hazards.
3.2 Cleaning Tasks
3.2.1 Dusting and Surface Cleaning
• Start by dusting high surfaces, including shelves, ledges, and light fixtures, using a microfiber cloth.
• Wipe down desks, tables, and other horizontal surfaces with a damp cloth and appropriate cleaner.
• Clean telephones, keyboards, and other frequently touched surfaces with disinfectant wipes.
3.2.2 Floor Cleaning
• Carpets: Vacuum thoroughly, paying special attention to high-traffic areas. Spot clean any stains using appropriate cleaners.
• Hard Floors: Sweep or vacuum to remove loose dirt and debris. Mop with a neutral floor cleaner. Use a scrubber for stubborn stains if needed.
3.2.3 Waste Disposal
• Empty all waste bins, replace liners, and clean the bins if necessary.
• Dispose of waste according to the facility’s waste management policy.
3.2.4 Washrooms
• Clean sinks, countertops, and mirrors using appropriate cleaners.
• Disinfect toilet bowls, seats, and urinals. Clean and sanitize all touchpoints, including flush handles, door handles, and dispensers.
• Replenish consumables such as soap, toilet paper, and paper towels.
• Mop the floor with a disinfectant solution.
3.2.5 Kitchen and Break Rooms
• Clean all surfaces, including countertops, tables, and sinks.
• Disinfect high-touch areas such as handles, knobs, and buttons on appliances.
• Wipe down and clean the exterior of appliances like microwaves, refrigerators, and coffee machines.
• Empty waste bins and clean the floor as per the floor type.
3.2.6 Glass and Window Cleaning
• Use a glass cleaner and a squeegee to clean interior glass surfaces and windows. Ensure no streaks are left behind.
3.3 Final Inspection and Sign-Off
• Conduct a final walkthrough to ensure all areas are clean and no tasks have been missed.
• Remove all cleaning signs and ensure all equipment is stored properly.
• Sign off the cleaning checklist for the area, noting any issues or maintenance needs.

Safety precautions

• Hazardous Substances: Use cleaning chemicals as per the manufacturer’s instructions. Ensure proper ventilation and never mix chemicals.
• Manual Handling: Avoid lifting heavy objects alone; use proper lifting techniques or seek assistance.
• Slips, Trips, and Falls: Keep walkways clear of obstacles and use wet floor signs after mopping.
• PPE: Always wear appropriate PPE to avoid exposure to harmful substances and prevent injury.

Emergency procedures

• Accidents: Report any accidents or injuries immediately to the supervisor and follow the emergency response plan.
• Spillages: Contain and clean any chemical spills immediately, using appropriate spill kits and PPE.
