1
Introduction
The purpose of this Method Statement is to outline the safe and efficient procedures for the manual handling, delivery, and handling of stock. This ensures that all tasks are performed in a manner that minimizes the risk of injury to personnel, damage to goods, and other associated hazards.
2
Scope of work
This Method Statement applies to all personnel involved in the manual handling, delivery, and storage of stock across the entire site or project. It covers activities from the receipt of goods, transportation within the site, to the final placement or storage of materials.
3
Responsibilities
Site Manager/Supervisor: Ensures that all personnel are aware of and follow the Method Statement. Provides necessary resources and equipment. Conducts regular inspections and audits. Health and Safety Officer: Monitors compliance with safety regulations. Provides training on manual handling techniques. Investigates any incidents or near misses. Employees/Workers: Adhere to the procedures outlined in this Method Statement. Report any unsafe conditions or practices. Use the provided equipment correctly and safely.

Equipment and materials
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Safety gloves Safety boots High-visibility vests Back support belts (if required) Manual Handling Aids: Trolleys Pallet jacks Lift-assist devices Materials: Stock items as specified (e.g., boxes, pallets)
5
Procedure
Pre-Delivery Preparation: Assess the weight, shape, and size of the stock to be handled. Identify any potential hazards associated with the handling or delivery of stock. Ensure that the route for transporting goods is clear and free from obstructions. Delivery of Stock: Use appropriate manual handling aids to offload the stock from delivery vehicles. Ensure that items are securely placed on trolleys or pallet jacks. Handling of Stock: Adopt the correct posture (bend the knees, keep the back straight) when lifting items manually. Use team lifting techniques for heavy or awkward items. Move stock carefully to avoid sudden movements or jerks. Storage: Place stock in the designated storage area, ensuring that it is stable and does not pose a risk of toppling. Adhere to stacking guidelines and do not exceed recommended heights.
6
Safety precautions
Conduct a risk assessment prior to any manual handling task. Avoid lifting loads that are too heavy or awkward for one person to handle. Use appropriate PPE and manual handling aids. Ensure good housekeeping to prevent slips, trips, and falls.
7
Emergency procedures
Injury Response: Administer first aid if a worker is injured. Report the incident to the Site Manager and Health and Safety Officer immediately. Call emergency services if necessary. Spillage Response: Contain and clean up any spills promptly to prevent slip hazards. Use appropriate spill kits and dispose of waste in accordance with site procedures.
8
Environmental considerations
Minimize packaging waste by using reusable or recyclable materials. Dispose of waste materials in designated recycling bins. Ensure that stock is stored in a way that does not obstruct emergency exits or walkways.
9
Training and competence
All personnel involved in manual handling tasks must receive appropriate training on safe manual handling techniques. Workers should be competent in the use of manual handling aids and equipment. Regular refresher training should be provided to ensure ongoing competence.
10
Review and monitoring
Regular Inspections: Conduct regular site inspections to ensure compliance with the Method Statement. Incident Reports: Review any incidents or near misses and revise procedures if necessary. Ongoing Monitoring: The Site Manager and Health and Safety Officer will continuously monitor manual handling activities and update the Method Statement as required.
